Hello there, I’m Catherine Ballard! And just like you, I love sinking my teeth into a new home project, dream about knocking down all.the.walls. and spending WAY too much time looking at homes I can’t afford on Pinterest. I’ve always loved interior decorating, DIY, and renovations, and enjoy long walks down the aisles of the home improvement store. In other words, you’re in good company around here.
I get my love of home renovation from a great place – my parents. They taught me how to use power tools and that it’s better to measure twice and cut once (my Dad also taught me how to NOT cut a live wire, but that’s a story for another day). They slowly renovated their home while I was growing up and I loved watching and helping – I spent my youth dreaming about design and wishing I could be a contestant on Trading Spaces (remember that show?). But it was their home, not mine. I longed for the day when I would own my own home and be able to do whatever I wanted with it. That dream came true when we purchased our first home in March of 2016.
I started this site as a home renovation diary of sorts but along the way, I’ve found my true passion – helping other DIYers tackle projects they never thought they could, and know they did it right because they had great information.
Friends, family, and acquaintances ask for advice on DIY stuff all the time, and I love helping! I don’t think home improvement is hard or scary, and I’ve enjoyed helping people around me make changes in their homes and feel empowered through it. I’m no magic homemaker/master carpenter/amazing DIY goddess, but I am fearless. Maybe that’s a good thing, maybe it’s a bad thing, but I know it’s a quality that has helped me make the house I bought into a home I love.
My mission is pretty simple: to provide you with insight and inspiration so you can confidently tackle whatever home projects your mind can dream up.
As a previous high school teacher, I know anyone can learn anything if they have access to the right information. Whether you want to create a home that just feels like YOU, tackle a complicated renovation, or just find out the best way to take care of those things you’ve been putting off, it’s all just information. You can do it – you just need a guide (that’s me!).
If this is your first time visiting, I’d love to get you
PS: If you’re up for it, I think you’d love taking my Dauntless DIY Challenge. It’s only 3 days long and is FULL of tips and tricks to get you started in your DIY journey.
