Guys, we got a new office rug! We’ve been thinking about buying one for the past few months now and I’ve been struggling with what style to go with. Some people love more traditional ones, while others love a more modern twist. I’ve always erred on the modern side, but something is pulling me to go more traditional this time.
So I did. On a rogue trip to Target when Emma wouldn’t calm down, I decided to just take a look at what they had. I had been stalking some online and noticed they were on sale. That meant I HAD to look in person, right? Here were the contenders.
First up, the pink one. Super pretty right? Well, I loved it online, but knew that if we got that one, it meant that I would have to find new curtains sooner than later since our office’s curtains would absolutely compete with them. (Also, what a throwback picture! That’s before we did the wood floors or painted the walls!)
Which led me to our next option. The yellow one. Super pretty in store, but it was a little too gold for me. Our whole house’s trim was gold when we moved in, so I have flashbacks. It’s scary, ya’ll.
So I landed on Option #3, a gorgeous navy and gray/tan one that jumped in my cart. Not really. It actually was kind of hard to get in the cart alone while wearing a baby, but I did it. Superwoman right here. AND I got it into the car by myself. Seriously.
At $169.99, it wasn’t the cheapest thing, but I hope it will last a little while. It certainly isn’t $1000+ either, so I feel like it’s an okay investment. I grew up in a carpeted flooring family, so hardwoods and rugs are a new thing to me. Guys, I love Target. It’s a great place to get big style on a smaller budget. I’ve seen similar rugs for WAY more in other stores. Sure, they would probably last longer, but for something I put my dirty shoes on and will absolutely get all kinds of stains on it from Emma, I’m ok with it. PS: Target has no idea who I am and didn’t sponsor this.
Look at that beauty! All the different blues play so nice together, and the tans are just the right kind of neutral to make it not too ‘in your face’. I feel like it’s a neutral, like a pair of denim jeans. And it’s soft, too! Since we’ll have a little one crawling around on it pretty soon and a Dog that really enjoys laying on anything soft, it was the right way to go.
You can kind of tell in this picture how wonderful those fibers are. They’re not looped, so Tabby’s nails won’t get stuck underneath them and pull them out. That happened to our last rug sooner than later, which meant it ended up being donated quickly. It survived the move, but not much longer. Anyway, it’s super soft. Like I would rather sit on the ground than in my office chair soft.
Tabby seriously loves it. We rolled it out last night, and I came upstairs looking for her this morning to find her sprawled out. I think she misses the carpet we ripped up… 😅 Too bad because those beautiful bamboo floors are here to stay!
One of my favorite things about it and a non-negotiable for me, while I was looking around, was that it had to have clean edges. Nothing to detangle, nothing for Emma to pull on, nothing for Tabby to want to chew. Tassels and chew toys can look awful similar sometimes! I love the ‘world’ look that a lot of rugs have with the frayed edges, but not for this stage in our lives. Someday when we’re old and gray and we only have adults around, but that’s a long way off!
Emma loves it too. We did tummy time on it today, and she’s a fan. Not of laying on her stomach, but she was good with the rug. One battle at a time guys, one battle at a time. It’s soft underfoot when she’s practicing standing up, and padded enough to catch her a little bit when she’s learning to walk in a few months.
One more shot, just because. That face makes me happier than anything in this whole world! What about you guys? Have you made any little updates that feel a lot bigger than they actually are? Do you hate tummy time too? Tell me all about it in the comments below!
